Some days you just need an ounce of positivity. You dig deep, trying to find that one thing at the very bottom of the barrel that can help you make it to the next day. Sometimes we find ourselves defeated, lying on the couch under a comfy blanket and a pint of Ben and Jerry’s. As if positive energy is an elusive unicorn. But, it sort of is…
Of course, Ben and Jerry’s is delicious, however, being intrinsically happy is better. We’re living in a world that now believes you can buy happiness. If you’re bored, you can buy a video game. If you’re tired, you can buy an energy boost. If you’re feeling blue, you can grab yourself a cupcake or two. (Or three…) What this does in the long-term covers up the root of the problem. Rather than facing our emotions head on, we’re shying away from it. We’re telling ourselves to ignore it.
Rather than ignoring the emotion, the next time you find yourself in a slump – and believe me, I’ve been there – stop for a moment, breathe, and recite some affirmations. Acknowledge the emotion and release the emotion. Here are a few of my favorites:
– It will get better.
– Positive mind. Positive vibes. Positive life.
– Too blessed to be stressed.
– I am stronger than I think.
– Mistakes don’t define you.
– Focus on the good.
– Just keep swimming. (Thank you, Dory.)
– One step at a time.
– What is, is.
– This too shall pass.
– I choose to be happy.
– Don’t sweat the small stuff – it’s all small stuff.
– This is an opportunity.
What are your favorites? Let me know, and I might add them to my own.
‘Til the next time.
